Industry – Insulation Industry Mechanic/Fitter

Function description:

This position applies insulating materials to process piping, duct-work, or other mechanical systems in order to help control and maintain temperature in an industrial setting. Must be a team player.

ACTIVITIES:

· Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors;

· Remove old insulation, following safety procedures;

· Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required;

· Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use;

· Install metal around insulated pipes in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage;

· Select appropriate insulation based on the heat retaining or excluding characteristics of the material;

· Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements;

· Apply and seal the specific called for insulation “Finish” in a safe and neat appearance;

· Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed;

· Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor;

· Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· 2-5 years of industry experience required; more than 5 years of industry experience preferred;

· Knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and process piping equipment;

· Knowledge of specifications and limitations of insulation materials;

· Good sense of housekeeping and organizational skills;

· VCA;

· Driver licence.
